Course Description

Chemistry Honors deepens students’ understanding of how matter behaves and why chemical reactions occur.
Students develop fluency with core models (atomic structure, bonding, stoichiometry, kinetics, equilibrium, acids–bases, and thermochemistry), connect concepts to real-world applications, and practice the habits of scientists through problem sets, inquiry, and labs. The pace and math level are designed to prepare students for AP Chemistry and to strengthen the science foundation for advanced biology coursework.

Major Units & Topics

  • Matter & Measurement; Atomic Structure; Nuclear Chemistry
  • Electron Configuration & Periodicity
  • Chemical Bonding; Names, Formulas, and Reactions
  • Stoichiometry & Quantitative Problem-Solving
  • Gas Laws; Phases & Phase Changes
  • Solutions; Ions in Solution
  • Acids, Bases, Titration, and pH

  • Test corrections: allowed (closed-notes) to regain up to 50% of points lost.
  • Late work: pre-approved late submissions accepted within 48 hours with a 10% penalty; otherwise a zero is recorded.
  • Academic integrity: tests are closed-notes; online assessments may use a lockdown browser; unauthorized device use results in an automatic F on that assessment.
  • Attendance: tardy after 15 minutes; absent after 30 minutes; please notify the instructor about planned absences.
  • Materials: bring textbook/notebook each session and a scientific calculator for assessments.
  • Office hours: by appointment.
