There might be times that you’ll find yourself agreeing with the following statements:

  • Your efforts do not translate into target grades.
  • You lack confidence in your academic potential.
  • You need better academic support.
  • Your grades and your self-esteem drop.
  • You’re looking for a fresh start.

Why do we need academic transformation? A lot of times we’re not in an environment which serves our needs. Let me put it in another way – is your school serving you, or are you serving your school? Maybe you could let this question spin around in your mind for a few minutes before you read on.

Don’t get me wrong. The question I posed doesn’t remove any responsibilities from the student’s end. But parents and students often fail to advocate for themselves because they’re either trying ever harder to please an impersonal school system or outright avoiding the problem altogether. In either case, the student is not well-served for their future.

That’s not a situation where anyone in society wins.

Parents and students: always remember that you’re the arbiter of your educational decisions. Not your school. Not even Legend College Preparatory. The first step of academic transformation always requires an acknowledgement of both the power and the responsibility to assess whether things are working or not. Only then can you begin to make the right choices on your own behalf. Never lose sight of that, and never stop looking for the solution that works for you!
