GPA or Grade Point Average is the cumulative average of the letter grades a student receives in school on a 4.0 scale. It is also one of the most stressful factors in determining whether a student gets accepted into the school of their choice.

Here are some things to keep in mind to help your student maintain their GPA throughout their high school career:

  1. Helps to Curate the Perfect Student Profile

Every year of your student’s high school career is important in terms of GPA. You can think of it like walking up some stairs, with every year being a different step up towards your destination. Usually Freshman and Sophomore year are the setup years to get acquainted with the transition from middle school. Junior year is where they want to really stack up on APs to help boost their GPA and show colleges that they can handle the extensive course load. As for Senior year, their schedule should also be packed with impressive courses to show colleges that they aren’t slacking off just because it is the last year of high school.

  1. Acts as a Good Indication to Student Performance for College Admissions

If a student generally does well in high school, they will most likely carrying that ambition with them to college. According to a study done by Matthew Chingos, he uses a sample of students who attended less-selective public four-year colleges and universities to calculate whether a student would graduate based on both their high school GPA and SAT or ACT score. The relationship between GPA in high school and graduation is the strongest correlation. This shows that having a GPA in high school will show colleges that the student is capable of cultivating college-level behavior like attending classes and turning in assignments on time.

  1. Establishes Healthy Work Habits

Building and maintaining good study habits should start sooner rather than later. The sooner these habits are formed, the more effective the outcome. A students’ GPA does more than just showcase grades and performance in class. It also acts as a reflection to a students’ character and work ethic. Usually students who show they can rise up above their peers in high school will excel in their careers or even graduate school. If a student is on top of his or her studies and is able to curate a well-rounded course plan, this shows future employers that this person has time management and organization skills to do well in their workplace.
