What is AP Capstone?

AP Capstone Overview

The AP Capstone program is one of the newest offerings from the College Board. It helps students develop crucial research skills that enhance their profiles as college and job candidates.

Program Structure

The AP Capstone program consists of two yearlong courses: AP Seminar and AP Research. These courses complement other AP classes, enriching students’ overall learning experience.

Skills Development

Instead of focusing on specific subject knowledge, AP Seminar and AP Research take an interdisciplinary approach. They help students develop critical thinking, research, collaboration, time management, and presentation skills essential for college-level work.

Purpose of the Program

The College Board created the AP Capstone Diploma program in response to requests from higher education professionals. They identified a need for a structured way for high school students to master vital skills before entering college.

Distinguishing Features

Students who participate in this program distinguish themselves from their peers by building desirable skills. Upon completion, students earn a certificate from the College Board. They can also earn the AP Diploma by passing at least four other AP exams (with scores of 3 or above) before graduation.

Exclusive Opportunity

This program represents a unique opportunity; fewer than 10% of high schools in California offer it. Therefore, seize this chance to enhance your academic profile!

Course Prerequisites

Please note that students must complete AP Seminar before enrolling in AP Research. For maximum benefit, we recommend committing to an academic track at Legend College Preparatory. This commitment ensures successful completion of the AP Diploma program, helping students earn distinction on their transcripts.
