A generation or two ago, we were still dealing with discussions and arguments over the merit of spending the summer in school. “Let the kids play!” they used to say.

Considering our current competitive environment, I find myself longing for the days when we could fit family time in the summer.

The demands of education are year-round, and our students need to maintain their knowledge and skills. I don’t know of any single student who can afford to idle for 3 months. On the other hand, we find that students do need some downtime so they don’t burn out before they graduate high school. So how do we get the best of both worlds?

We’ve taken the approach of using six weeks out of the summer to help students get through an entire year’s worth of material. It leaves plenty of other weeks in the summer intact for other activities and some well-deserved rest.

(Actually, our students still manage to get a break even though they’re going through a high-paced course. That’s how much we’ve refined our process!)

The payoff is huge. Can’t double up on a science at your public school? Use the summer to take care of it. Feel like you need to stack all your AP’s in your junior year? Now you can even out your load. Didn’t do well in a particular class and want to try again? Credit recovery is available in the summer, too!

Of course, the way to make the most of your summer is to make sure your course selection is aligned to your goals. We’re always happy to help with that.
